About my treatments
I offer you not just a massage treatment, but a learning experience and a journey towards better self-awareness. I work with you using a variety of massage and bodywork approaches, to give you a treatment programme which is truly tailored to your specific needs. There are no predetermined massage sequences, routines or treatment plans. Every treatment is different, even for the same person on different days. I never know how a treatment is going to unfold until I am actually working with you.
When you arrive at the clinic, you will be greeted by myself and my friendly guide dog, Jenni. Once Jenni has said ‘hello’, she will remain a quiet presence in the room.
Here is a brief summary of the treatments which I offer. In practice however, I do not distinguish between individual therapies. I simply use the best combination of techniques for you on the day.
Holistic Therapeutic Massage
The massage is tailored to suit you, using various massage strokes, ranging from light touch to firm pressure, with stretches and joint mobilisations/movement. This will leave you feeling relaxed and may help to relieve aches, stress and tension.
Holistic Sports and Remedial Massage
People often think “no pain, no gain”, when it comes to sports massage, but it does not have to be this way. I use advanced bodywork techniques to help you get better faster, or optimise your physical performance, in a person-centred way. I aim to “work with” you, rather than “doing to” you, because I believe that this achieves the best results for you with the least possible discomfort.
Myofascial Release (MFR)
I work with slow, sustained pressure, holds and stretches directly on your skin, without oil, to release restrictions in your connective tissue (fascia).
Your bones, muscles, skin and internal organs are all attached to the fascia. Therefore, this subtle, yet deep treatment really does affect your whole body in many amazing ways.
MFR can help you to correct your posture, keep your internal organs working healthily and can aid phenomenal releases of stored-up physical and emotional tension.
Scar Tissue Release
Scars can be uncomfortable, impair your movement, appear unsightly and make you feel self-conscious. They are a normal part of the body’s healing process after injury or surgery, but the layers of fascia can get stuck together and then the surrounding tissues and organs do not move and work quite as they should.
The great news though is that I can use both MFR and aromatherapy massage to help unstick the tissues on and around your scar, where it feels stuck or sore. This can make it easier for you to move and the scar often looks better too, giving you back your confidence.
Deep Tissue Massage in Exeter
People often think “no pain, no gain”, when it comes to deep tissue massage, but it does not have to be this way.
I use my forearms and elbows to work firmly, yet sensitively, into tight and aching areas. Leaning in with my body weight enables me to work deeply into your muscles, without causing you unnecessary pain or discomfort.
Having a massage with natural essential oils from aromatic and medicinal plants will bring a sense of luxury to your treatment, as well as added health benefits for your body and mind.
After a thorough consultation, I mix your unique oil blend to suit your physical and emotional needs on the day. For long-term treatment and lasting benefits, I can make up prescription oil blends for you to use at home too.
I combine specialised myofascial release (MFR) techniques and aromatherapy massage with exotic essential oils, to give you a natural facelift, glowing skin and a deep feeling of relaxation.
I am the only therapist currently offering this treatment in Exeter.
