About Me – Dr. Sarah Bryan, Ph.D, SCMT Dip., MTI (reg’d), MIFPA, CNHC (reg’d)

I have been a massage practitioner since 2012. I completed my training and started my career in Sheffield, before moving to Exeter in 2016. If you haven’t met me at ENHC yet, you may have seen my guide dog, Jenni; she loves to escape from my treatment room and make friends with everyone in the reception area!

I am a practitioner member of both the Massage Training Institute (MTI) and the International Federation of Professional Aromatherapists (IFPA) and undertake research work for both of these organisations. I am also the local Devon champion for the Complementary and Natural Healthcare Council (CNHC) and work with members of the public, to raise awareness of the importance of choosing qualified, insured complementary therapists. I first trained in holistic massage therapy with Vicky Gaughan at the Sheffield Centre for Massage Training, graduating in 2012. Keen to gain a better understanding of the roll of massage in relation to injuries and medical conditions, I went on to train in holistic sports and remedial massage therapy at the same school, with visiting tutor, Julie Linton, principal of the JL Meridian School of Massage and Bodywork, Birmingham. I also completed an extensive hands free massage course with Master Practitioner, Darien Pritchard, a leading expert in dynamic massage and biomechanics. In 2014, I completed a diploma in Clinical Aromatherapy, with the Penny Price Academy of Aromatherapy, Hinckley. I am currently studying for the Advanced Clinical Diploma in Integrated Myofascial Therapy, with Ruth Duncan of Myofascial Release UK, Glasgow.

About My Treatments

My special interest is the use of essential and carrier oils in a sports and remedial massage context, in order to support the body’s own healing mechanisms. My massage treatments are person-centred, integrating five different therapeutic approaches:

  • Holistic therapeutic massage
  • Holistic sports and remedial massage
  • Deep tissue massage
  • Myofascial release
  • Clinical aromatherapy.

Massage sessions are normally an hour in length, priced at £50. However, I also offer 20-minute mini-massages, 40-minute midi massages and 90-minute extended massages. The shorter treatment options may suit you if you are new to this type of massage or if you have only limited time to spare during your lunch break.

On your first visit, I will make a thorough assessment of your needs and tailor a bespoke treatment programme for you. This will give you a massage experience which is both pleasant to receive and clinically effective, moving away from the traditional distinction between relaxation massage and sports massage. This means that you can fully benefit from the best of both worlds, without having to choose one treatment type or another. If you are put off by massage because you don’t like oil on your skin, that’s fine too. I can tailor an oil-free remedial bodywork treatment to suit you.

At the end of your treatment, you will receive suggestions for aftercare, so that you can continue to look after your own health at home. Aftercare advice may consist of rehabilitation exercises, lifestyle tips or referral to other useful services. I also offer personalised aromatherapy products, including foam baths, creams, lotions, oils, gels, washes, toners, spritzes and drinkable tonics. These have a wide range of physical and emotional benefits. Each product is individually prescribed and hand-made. Please contact me for specific details in relation to your health needs. Products can be ordered from me after an initial consultation and will be delivered to the clinic for collection.
